Frank Freshwaters was an American criminal who was born on August 17, 1935, and died on September 30, 2016. He was notorious for his involvement in a high-profile prison escape in 1959, where he fled from prison and lived under a false identity for more than five decades until he was tracked down and apprehended by authorities in 2015.

Freshwaters was initially convicted of manslaughter for his role in a fatal car accident in 1957. He was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison but managed to escape from the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio, in 1959. After his escape, he assumed the identity of a deceased Florida man named William Harold Cox and settled in the state.

For more than five decades, Freshwaters lived under this false identity, even acquiring a driver's license, Social Security card, and work history under the name of Cox. However, he was eventually caught in 2015 when the U.S. Marshals Service received a tip about his whereabouts and apprehended him in Melbourne, Florida.

Freshwaters was extradited to Ohio and was sentenced to complete the remaining years of his initial manslaughter conviction. However, he was granted parole in 2019, and he was released from prison at the age of 83.
